For many years when you heard "commotion and Colombia" in the same sentence, your mind may have quickly envisioned cocaine, cartel, and murder capital of the world. However, during our visits to Medellin, Colombia, over the past three years, we've seen a place where the Great Commission is more than a command. The Great Commission is a commotion in Colombia.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
The national church is "exploding" (actually, growing exponentially) as a result of door-to-door evangelism taking place while the fields are ripe. So ripe, they need help reaping in this abundant harvest of souls. Jesus said in John 4:35, "Don't you have a saying, 'It's still four months until harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest."
Previous team members have been amazed to see how the Lord has gone before them, preparing so many hearts to be open to hearing and responding to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through their witness. Could it be that God is calling you to Colombia to prepare you for reaping a harvest in your home country?
Please prayerfully consider joining an upcoming MFM short-term evangelism team to Colombia.
These new Christ followers are being discipled in small house church communities. IGLEICO –– the national church association, along with other like-minded ministries, had a vision of planting 20,000 house churches in five years. Within three years, over 17,000 have been planted. At this rate, they will exceed their goal.
We recently spent several days with Remberto Barrios, President of IGLEICO, as he shared what God has been doing in Colombia through IGLEICO since 1943. This church association has a vision and passion to saturate Colombia with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to better equip themselves to make disciples of all nations.
We are excited about relocating to Medellín in May 2015, where we will be partnering with IGLEICO. We will be assisting with MFM shortterm teams, and in helping to prepare Colombians to cross borders and cultures, as they become a part of the next great expansion of God's kingdom.
People have long been cautioned and concerned about visiting Colombia. Let us assure you that there is only one foreseen caution:
Being in the midst of the commotion of the Great Commission is contagious!
