Men for Missions-Canada, has made the country of Colombia our national project for 2016. That means we want to prayerfully, financially, and in whatever way possible partner with Colombian Christians. Hopefully, this will involve MFM teams going into Colombia to do whatever we can. In November 2015, along with several others, I had the privilege to go to Medellin, Colombia. It was encouraging to see God working in a country that has been ripped apart by drugs and corruption over the last number of decades. Once again, I was reminded that prayer is the key to ministry and our witness.
We stayed at the OMS Seminary, did some maintenance work at the facility, but for me, a very challenging but rewarding part of the time spent in Medellin was door-to-door evangelism. It was DEFINITELY OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE!
This wasn’t us doing anything special, it was all about being obedient to God. I was reminded that prayer is the key to ministry and our witness. Many of the churches that we spent time in had prayed for specific results for months and had even held 24 hour prayer vigils and fasts. Churches and individuals have sacrificed much in order to serve Jesus Christ.
One church had many women who prayed specifically for men to help in evangelism. When six men showed up, they were overwhelmed. That was a very humbling experience.
We went in groups of three. The North American gave a short testimony of how God had worked in his life. He then presented the message of salvation with the help of the Evangecube. A Colombian translator relayed our message into Spanish. A member from the local church went along with us so that someone could follow-up if a person decided to follow Jesus Christ or needed further support in some area of their life.
We spent time ministering and sharing God’s love in homes, business shops, outdoor cafes, bars, on the sidewalks, or wherever God led and people would listen. It is exciting that everywhere we go, whether in Colombia or North America, people desire to know more about Him.
But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of the messengers who bring Good News”
(Romans 10: 14 – 15).
