In November 2015, I spent 10 days in Colombia with Steve Rehner and fellow Canadians. This was an MFM work / evangelism team. The work involved painting the married students apartment building. A highlight was watching Steve climb the spaghetti-like extension ladder to the top of the three story building to paint the trim.
On Sunday, we attended a church service in the building that MFM-Canada had invested funds and sweat to secure the back wall of the building. We each brought a word of greeting and encouragement to the people, spoke from the Word, and we six men sang for the congregation.
Each day we studied the Word, shared our own life-journeys, and prayed for each other to become a part of one another's journey.
However, the biggest joy was the opportunity to participate in door-to-door evangelism in support of church plants taking place in some of the neighborhoods in Medellin. This activity is so unfamiliar to me. It's just not something that I do on a regular basis. But we saw, by God's grace, 144 people make decisions for Jesus.
If you have never before participated in this kind of a short term mission trip, I would encourage you to prayerfully consider it.
You will probably be challenged to think more seriously about your own personal testimony, which will make you more certain of God's mercy, and it will make you more aware of the power of God for the conversion of souls. Let us all make it our purpose to be unashamed of the Gospel.
