Coffee Break

My Journey

By Mykaela Alvey MFM Staff

Mykaela My journey with One Mission Society started on May 22, 2017. I was a 22-year-old recent college graduate who didn’t have a clue what I was going to do with my life. I knew two things for sure. I knew that I loved to write, and I knew that God had recently called me into missions.

remember very few things about my first day as an intern. What I know for sure is that at 10 o’clock we were ushered by our mobilizers to something called “Coffee Break.” We walked out of the back doors of OMS and headed toward a small building that wasn’t far.

I remember walking into the building and being greeted by a group of men and women sitting around a long table. I was encouraged to sit down as someone named Kent walked around passing out empty mugs and the promise of great coffee. I sipped on my coffee, taking in the intense number of conversations around me. These people knew how to talk, and I wanted to know them better.

So, I went back. Everyday. I interacted with and learned about everyone sitting around that table. I laughed with them. With every passing day, they felt more like family. They were my kind of people.

This was Men for Missions.

My journey with MFM is only just beginning, but I am eager to begin the ministry I’ve been called to do. Fundraising has been equally the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever tackled.

There have been many moments that I knew quitting would be easier. But, I know that anything that is truly worth it doesn’t come easily. God put a burden on my heart to encourage and equip Christians to broaden their mindset and learn how to be on mission for the Lord, regardless of their day job. So, I will continue forward because I know that I’m not doing it alone.

Once I have finished fundraising, I will step into the role of Communications Specialist. I am so excited to help spread the word about what our ministry is doing on the mission field through social media, Action Magazine, and newsletters. I am passionate about getting the word out about our mission and inviting people to join us.

I still have a long journey ahead of me, but I can see the victory in sight as I have recently reached 70 percent funded.

I’m seeking people who are willing to take a step in faith and join my monthly financial team. We are the body of Christ, which means I can’t do this without your help. My prayer for my ministry is that I would be able to be a part of a ripple effect. If I can encourage even one person to live on mission for the Lord, then they can impact one more person, and so on.

Will you join me? Will you join me so that I can help men and women across the country start their life-changing journey and live on mission for the Lord?
