Dr. Stanley Tam’s Incredible Journey

By Warren Hardig MFM Executive Director

Dr. Stanley Tam
More than sixty years ago, Dr. Stanley Tam became MFM’s first layman –– launching him on an incredible journey. Recently he celebrated his 100th birthday.

Men for Missions’ first layman, Dr. Stanley Tam, reached the century mark on September 15, 2015. A huge crowd assembled to celebrate Stanley’s birthday at U.S. Plastics in Lima, Ohio, on Saturday, September 19. In his kind, gracious way, Stanley greeted everyone and told us another story of a business associate who came to Christ.

The heart of One Mission Society is that every person has the opportunity to worship Jesus Christ. Charles Cowman, in a vision given by God, determined to put a gospel tract in every home in Japan. As the mission expanded to other nations, the proclamation of the Gospel has been at the foundation.

At one point the distribution of literature had stopped due to the lack of finances. It was then that Stanley asked the president of the Oriental Missionary Society if they would start distributing literature again if he could trust the Lord for $50,000 a year. Stanley continued to trust the Lord for more and more finances as the mission continued to expand the outreach. He has now given in excess of 80 million dollars for Every Community for Christ.

Stanley has challenged many of us to have a personal testimony tract. His goal to witness to at least one million people has personally been a challenge to me. He is currently living in an assisted living facility owned and operated by Christians. His only complaint is, “There are not enough unsaved people here.”

Stanley has kept the bar high for Men for Missions.
