My name is Doug Hoffman, I'm from Salem, Oregon. I'm currently the Executive Director for Mercy, Inc. which is a ministry of One Mission Society. I took my first Men for Missions trip in 2006, to Mozambique. I was not a very willing person going on the trip. I went because my wife and daughter went, and they thought it would be a good idea. I was always very willing to give money, and encourage people to go, but it wasn't necessarily my deal. I thought I was too busy.

I went on that trip to help build a church. But, God, in his great provision, said, "Hey, you know, I want to take you down for a day. I'm gonna make you ill." I spent a day just by myself and, during that time, God talked to me and said, "I want you to be boots on the ground. And, boots on the ground in Africa, in particular."

And as I was looking at that calling, I thought, "Lord, I don't know what that's all about." But, by the same token, I was pretty excited. So, when the team got back, I said, "Hey, we're going to Africa." And my wife said, "I didn't get that same call, at the same time." So, over the next 13 years, the Lord was preparing me to be involved full-time in missions. But that first trip, in particular, that I took, when I was able to be quiet, and rest in the Lord, he had a mission for me. I was sensitive to hear that, and that motivated me, to make the move to be full-time in missions and I’m immensely enjoying it.

For MFMers the journey is the destination, and the discovery of personal purpose and fulfillment. Iowa businessman, John McLaughlin, interviewed MFMers about their life-changing journeys.
