Brazil: A Team Effort

There was a great peace throughout the whole process as we allowed God to work through any financial difficulties. Every individual had spent time doing unique things to raise the funds needed for this trip, and we were excited to see how God had provided the resources needed to be a part of the team.

Our team began having conversations with OMS missionaries David and Conce Roof over two years ago about bringing a short-term missions team to Brazil.

There was a great peace throughout the whole process as we allowed God to work through any financial difficulties. Every individual had spent time doing unique things to raise the funds needed for this trip, and we were excited to see how God had provided the resources needed to be a part of the team. We thank God for his guidance and provision. After two years of team recruitment, fundraising, and other preparations, our team was ready to go.

With passports and visas in hand we arrived in Brazil in the early morning and were met at the airport by the Roofs. Over the weekend, we enjoyed the hospitality at the Roofs’ home and had the opportunity to attend the local church where we met many of the church members. It was a unique experience to have church later in the evening on Sunday to take advantage of the cooler temperatures.

During the week, we went to a three-story church on a unique corner that would be the focus of our time and efforts. We completed tasks including creating scaffolding to allow us to sheetrock the walls and ceiling in the three-story staircase and painting class-rooms for young children.

We had the opportunity to participate in street ministry where we handed out literature, balloons, invitations to the local church, and prayed with people on the street. We also took part in a medical awareness program that focused on social services, blood pressure, and diabetes. The medical pro-gram takes place once a month, and while we were there, they had more people involved than they had ever had before. One of the highlights of each day was returning home and having a time of singing and devotions with the team. We practiced and prepared songs in English and Portuguese so that we were prepared for sharing throughout the week. During an English night, we had several team members share their testimonies and a short sermon. We celebrated Christmas in June with the 24 attendees at English night, and it was a great time of interaction with games and gifts.

The team was encouraged by the time spent with the Roofs and learning more about their ministry. The testimony of the people from the local church has a special place in our hearts. We were blessed as we learned from the family of God that stretches around the world.
