Destination Jericó

Our destination was Jericó, a three hour drive up into the mountains. There were many obstacles in our way. The bus was late, traffic was in grid lock, it was raining, there were landslides, trees blocked the very windy road, and very foggy near Jericó. Because we were running late, we did some training on the bus with our translators to save time. We arrived late and had to get going for evangelism very quickly, forgoing the usual training. God’s hand was certainly with us! We went to the busy town square where there were many businesses, and people were very open to talk to us. We’d talk to two or three people in a store and more people would come up just to listen. At the end of the morning, there were 91 “decisions” for Christ.

My most memorable conversation was with Oscar, the last person we spoke to in Jericó. Oscar used to work in the coffee fields, but his eyesight was failing so he had to quit three months earlier. As I shared my story and the Gospel with him, he really seemed engaged. At the conclusion of my presentation he said, “That’s beautiful!” I asked him if there had been a time in his life when he had trusted Christ as his Savior. He said, “I want to pray!” I had not said anything about prayer, so that showed that God was really at work in his heart. Oscar prayed to receive Christ.

At the conclusion of the day, 157 people had made a decision for Christ! On a day with so many obstacles, and less time evangelizing, God brought down the walls of Jericó!
