Counting the Cost

North Ireland

By Jeff Jones

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’” (Luke 14:28-30 ESV)

I have just returned from the Cabinet meeting of MFM in North Ireland, and as always, I came home blessed, having been encouraged by the reports of what God is doing throughout the world. I have written this with the purpose of encouraging those who are contemplating joining the ranks of those of us who have been involved for many years with Men for Missions. My involvement in MFM has lasted nearly forty years. I have traveled to many countries, and met many people who are dear and special friends.

I clearly remember while in Bristol, England, the first time I was invited to join with a group of men representing the four countries of the United Kingdom. It was the start of something that has been an inspiration to me ever since. Our council was formed in West Gwent, Wales. There have been those who initially joined our ranks and after some time chose not to continue, but with the determination that we have and the leading of the Holy Spirit, we continue by faith to DO, GO, and GIVE.

I am sure there will be those who would love to be part of what God is doing through MFM. As a result of considering the cost, there will be those who will feel they would be unable to fulfill what would be expected of them. Let me encourage you from my own experience, I really did not feel I had the ability to do what would be expected of me. How wrong I was! There will always be room for those with limited ability to serve the Lord. As He uses your skills, as limited as they may be, it will enable you to thank Him for calling you throughout the rest of your life. The call involves availability, time, and cost. I can honestly say, “God has been faithful to both my wife, Moira, and me as we have put our faith in God’s call to the test.

Thank you to all those who were an encouragement to me, and I pray for you every day. May these words inspire you to put God to the test, and live the rest of your life saying, “It was worth it all!

God bless you!
